Bridging the Discipleship Gap
Facilitating Contextual Generational Discipleship
Across the global south ‘majority world’ — Africa, Asia, Latin America — in the last half-century, in particular — hundreds of millions of people have heard the gospel and chosen to serve Jesus Christ. This phenomenal evangelistic triumph has exposed another highly-significant gap: ‘the discipleship gap’.
The Discipleship Gap
Leaders and learners want to strengthen their faith, enlarge their biblical understanding and effectively fulfil their calling to equip others as disciples of Christ.
The historical response to this concern has been theological education. Theological education, however, typically removes leaders and learners from their social, cultural and ministry contexts, at considerable expense, whilst taking years to complete.
Theological education leaves the ‘discipleship gap’ intact
Most significantly, theological education leaves the discipleship gap intact, as graduates encounter the stern reality that philosophical, theological learning, rooted in Western worldview and culture, is frequently impractical, difficult to pass-on and inherently resistant to contextualisation.
Something different is needed.
Contextual Generational Discipleship
The principal need, widely-identified at practical, ‘grass-roots’ levels and increasingly in missiological research, is to equip leaders and learners to bridge the discipleship gap: facilitating participation in formational, biblical discipleship, in context, in ways that inspire generational replication: forming disciples who form disciples and so forth.
‘Eternal Purpose Resources’ have been precisely formulated to bridge the discipleship gap: empowering contextual, self-replicating, spiritually, practically and missionally formational discipleship, using a free-to-license library of accessible, economical, biblical resources.
